A HOME AWAY FROM HOME
From the Bega RSL Club to the Eden Fishermen’s Club

The Bega Valley Rally and the Bega RSL Club have been linked together since the early seventies, not long after the Club was constructed. The Club provided all the facilities the rally organisers needed, as well as comfort for all participants in the event – competitors, service crews, officials, spectators. It was the main centre of the event.
“In considering the move to Eden one of our first thoughts were ‘but what of the RSL?’”, Clerk of Course Tom Snooks stated recently when announcing that the event would now be based at Eden. Snooks was associated with the RSL Club for almost all of the seventies as Secretary of the Australian Sporting Car Club, which conducted the rally.
“So, what a most pleasant surprise we experienced when we visited Eden and discovered the Eden Fishermen’s Recreation Club. It immediately felt like ‘a home away from home’. The Club, through General Manager Peter Cook, has offered the event all its facilities and is seeking to make all participants as welcome as they were by the Bega RSL.”
The event’s headquarters will be based at the club, allowing for excellent conditions for the rally’s documentation, administration, rally control, briefing and presentation. It also contains an excellent restaurant and other facilities for the convenience of all those attending the event.

EDEN ACCOMMODATION

.
Whilst Eden may have more accommodation available than Bega, those intending to attend the Bega Valley Rally shouldn’t leave the decision to make bookings for too long.
Eden is most attractive and this is one reason why the event is being based there, BUT…………. it is also very attractive to other events.
There will be several major activities around the district over the June long weekend (including a National Spearfishing Championship) and Eden takes any overflow from the now well-established and prestigious Jazz Festival conducted at Merimbula ‘just up the road’.
Eden has a good selection of motels, hotels and caravan parks offering accommodation of different levels and the Eden Visitor Information Centre will be pleased to make any bookings, although payment is to be made direct to the accommodation site.

SNUG COVE WHARF START AREA
The Bega Valley Rally’s base at Eden will provide one of a most picturesque and social starts to a rally.

The event will start from the Snug Cove wharf, with the first vehicle leaving at 9am, and the remainder of the field at two minute intervals. The start line will be located at the Matthews Flinders and George Bass plaque commemorating his being at this spot in 1798 – some 210 years ago!

Vehicles will assemble on one of the wharves prior to leaving ……………….

……AND THE FINISH
By comparison, the finish (in the dark) will be low key, with vehicles arriving and parking at the Eden Fishermen’s Club car park ………. however, there is the Club to provide a highlight!!
